Remembering… Playfulness

Practising Playfulness

Do you have a playground close to you? How about going and having a swing or a go on the ‘spinner’ or slide. Or simply sit and enjoy watching the children use their energy playing on the equipment. What memories does it evoke for you? Where are you playful in your life today? Who are you free to be silly with? How do you practice playfulness in your life today?

Reflect on Scripture

Read the short passage below slowly, slowly, slowly, letting the words sink in and letting the images fill you, then sit quietly for a moment or two.

Hold a wondering space within you – I wonder what Spirit might be saying to me today?

It might be that as you read, a word or phrase catches your attention, or perhaps a word returns and stays with you as you sit quietly at the end. Take this word or phrase into the day with you and listen for the ways it offers connections in your living.

Psalm 149:1-5

1 Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
    his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
2 Let Israel be glad in its Maker;
    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
3 Let them praise his name with dancing,
    making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.
4 For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
    he adorns the humble with victory.
5 Let the faithful exult in glory;
    let them sing for joy on their couches

Prayer Poem Maker God by Ruth Burgess.

Maker God,
I am made in your image:
I am a maker too.
When I am writing
I feel your joy in me,
your imagination dances in me
telling me ‘Yes’.
When I am digging
I feel your laughter in me,
I meet worms in the soil,
leaves brush my hands
birds sing.
When I am praying
I feel your hope in me,
sometimes your sadness too.
I am held in your life.
You rejoice
in your creativity.
You made me
in your image.
I love being
a maker too.
